Follow the link, How bout' it Arthur? what about landing a six footer in the surf??? Scroll down the page. Lots of sightings and an attack in Huntington last month.

I was surfing Cottons ( the northern most break at Trestles ) mid morning today and we were watching the dolphins having fun on the set waves, riding them in. I was paddling over a wave and right in front of me a dolphin glides under my board! His fin was still out of the water as he approached. I really thought his dorsal fin was going to hit the noes of my board! So close. I hear another guy talking of the same experience that just happened to him also! I seriously think they were seeing how close they could get before the sonar kicks in!! Ha Ha! When you surf you get great close ups of them all the time, but this was crazy close!! It's great to experience nature up close and in person!!

Must be spring.....

seriously though, what is up with all these shark sightings at huntington...that's typically not a common place for large sharks to be spotted.

They are around, probably all the time. In August 2001 two of them were chewing on a dead whale about a 1/4 mile off CDM beach. Lifeguards ended up towing the whale out about 15 miles - I guess the big fishies followed...

Check it out...

Here's the pictures...look at the last picture, the one with the small outboard boat (about a 16 ft ) in it. The distance from dorsal to tail is as long as the boat, looks like it was probably a 20 footer by that...

The article says that it was never closer then a mile to the beach but I was there. It was a 1/4 mile at most before they started to tow it out.

They catch very small white sharks[5-6'] there in the halibut gill nets. The last few Whites that have been on display at the Monterey aquarium were caught in Huntington Beach..also their are small ones caught off the piers in the surf zone in SMB..
