I was at Crystal Cove Beach today, near Reef Point and came across this...

A TUNA!! Looks like about a 30 pound or so Yellowfin, maybe a bluefin, hard to tell because it looks like it's been dead a few days and is all faded and the eyeballs are missing. I'm going by the length of the Pec fins. Anyway, the only thing I can figure is either someone would have had to dump it there as a joke, but walking a 30+ pound fish down to CC beach seems like a lot of work when you can just drive up to some other beaches, or maybe it fell off a tuna boat that was heading into the cannery in San Pedro and drifted in, or, maybe, it just got totally lost and ended up dying in the cold water up here. Anyway, I'm not trying to pull one over on anyone, I did actually find this thing today. If anyone wants to check there was a CC Ranger named Scott that saw this too and can verify it. Here's a wide shot showing the Reef Point rocks in the background.

Maybe we'll get an early run of tuna this year?? Anyway, I should have taken it to the Balboa Angling Club and claimed the 1st tuna of the year flag, LOL.

It's a conspiracy !!!! the government wants us to think that tuna is going to be of plenty this year but really, the government secretly killed them all, sorry guys no fishing for tuna this year

Looks like it was trying to bypass the usual millions and millions of years of evolution. See everybody, crawling out of the primordial soup ain't as easy as it might first appear!

BS! Last year even when the water was 75 degrees in local waters we only saw Dorado locally. and your saying that there was a rouge tuna that jumped out of the water although the water temps. are 60 degrees? plus your post count is only 2 which makes it harder for me to believe

hope i didn't start a war. Maybe he did think they looked like tuna. All I'm saying is that I'm sure they weren't. But who knows. Stranger things have happened.

The bluefins washing up are from the commercial pens down south. They were moving them before the last storm and one of them hit a high point and about 30 tons escaped. These stragglers obviously went in the wrong direction.

If you look in the latest issue of western outdoors there is a story in there of a lifeguard who found a 48 lber in the surf still alive in hb a few weeks ago. Maybe its a omen of things to come. im crossing my fingers.
