I have a question for the boaters out there. I might buy a 1986 Procraft 18ft Bass boat. But there isnt a motor, or speed Nob. How much would it cost me to get a motor for this boat. The guy said about 2000 installed. Im not sure if he just wants the sale. Please let me know. Thanks for the help in advance. As you can see this will be my first boat.

$2000 is way low! Check out this site to get an idea of what's out there and how much...

2,000? that could probably only get you a 9.9-15 hp. With a bass boat I would expect to have at least a 75 hp. Hope this helps.

budget about 5K for the motor (used)plus rigging .. you can find deals on ebay or maybe from a shop after someone repowered their boat

Thanks for the help guys. I was thinking it would be about 5k, but i wasnt sure. I am looking for a boat I can take in saltwater and fresh. I have 13k I want to spend. No more. What do you guys suggest. Id rather buy something newer with warranty. Thanks for your help

Check out used center consoles... 19' or bigger. They work very well in fresh or salt. You'd need 115hp.

Unfortunately, those boats would not be saltwater-worthy outside of the bays...

Hey smart arse genius 818, he previously stated that he wanted a boat for SALT & FRESH water... pay attention before you criticize. I still recommend that you look at center consoles if you plan to go outside of the bays.

Thank you guys again. I have checked out the tracker boats. They are pretty cheap in price, but not my style. I have two kids and i would need some room they can walk around. I went to a dealership today and they wanted to sell me a 2007 207 reinell 21ft. It was going to cost me $25,980 out the door, with the ski bars snap on cover, custom bait tank, fish finder, trolling motor. And the payment would have been 247.90. I dont mind the payment, but I need time to look at other boats before I jump into it. I appreciate the help on here, because I am ignorant of boats, and dont want to regret a decision because i was too anxious. Thanks again

if you are as you stated ignorant of boats (i am not making fun of you ) then DO NOT buy a new boat .. buy a good used one because after you have your boat you will learn what you really want and need .... then you will want to sell and buy another boat .. but if you bought new you will be kicking yourself because the boat already lost alot of value ... i have owned 6 boats in my time trust me on this you wont be happy being 10K upsidedown on a boat

honestly check out my Welcraft it is a perfect boat for fresh water and salt too .. i have had it 10 miles out with no problems but yet is has a trolling motor and is ready to bass fish ... its the perfect size and has tons of storage ...

Wildhorse- Very nice boat.

Eyeth... A boat like Wildhorse's would be a good starter boat. Since you have kids, this looks ideal (plenty of seating, enough power to drag some tubes or wake boards and not too big to handle at the ramp)
From the pictures and description it looks ready to go without too much extra expense for add-ons.
The bimini top will be a bonus, especially if you fish in freshwater lakes.
Galvanized trailer a plus if used in the saltwater.
Do some searching around for comparable boats for price and IMO take a serious look at this one.
One good thing about it is that you'll be able to sell it with a minimum of $$$ loss. Stick with a name brand because it will be easier to resell later.
Good luck with your purchase. Right now it's a buyer's market in the boating industry.

Side note: I don't know Wildhorse, I'm just giving my opinion from what I know about private boating.

BTW, what do you have for a tow vehicle?
