Hi everyone
I was looking in the newspaper todays and saw a report from san pedro, or long beach landing reported over a thousand sanddabs. I was wondering if any fisherman in this forum know where I can get a few.Gps points would help out very much .What type of weight, bait, hook will I need. Thank you in advance.

No GPS needed...

Go straight out to 300ft+ and drop down a bunch of hooks (1/0 will do) with squid strips on & 10oz weight......

No limit or hook restrictions on them.. Take them all!!!!!!!

I usually lanched the boat out of Davies, so how far away from the baitbarges do I need to go to be at 300+ft. I have a fishfinder with depth sounder, but sometimes it doesn't work. Please give me more info if you could. thank you ahead

Nah, I don't need that much. Just want to try to catch some, never caught one in my life yet. I've been boating and fishing for 4 years. Since it's not fishing season yet, thought I try fishing for dabs. Little fun better than none you know

They taste all right.

Just use a scissors to trim off the fins and gut and gill them.
Dredge em in some flour and fry in some butter.

Go out for sand bass instead. They pull 1000x harder than the mighty sanddab. Reeling in from 300ft gets old real quick. I dont know how those guys do it on those sanddab trips. They must have like 25 hook ganions.

USE A 16 OZ WEIGHT TO GET DOWN THERE QUICKLY.
AND A 2 SPEED REEL WILL MAKE IT EASIER TO CRANK EM UP FROM THAT DEPTH.

If your launching out of Davey's, grab a scoop of bait from the bait barge and ask the guys there. They get alot of info from the sportboats and from PB'ers. Make sure you tip them for the info too.

I think there are gear restrictions for them sanddabs: 10 hooks and 2lb. weight max.
Small strips of squid or mackerel strips
Don't use too large of a hook #2 live bait hook will do, 8-16oz weight depending on drift. Better to get it done before the wind comes up.
Look for, or follow the Sea Angler. They know where they are.
Good luck out there and post a report after you go.

That's a good idea, hopefully they wont throw weights at our boat.

Best bet for you is to get a decent off shore map, with depth readings..

Check PM.....
