So at my favorite surf fishing spot, there's this house that has a white PVC pipe going from under the house (it's raised up about 20 feet from the sand) and cuts off right over the sand. I didnt think much of it until I started seeing water coming out of it... then soapy shower water! They have their drain going straight into the ocean. Is that legal? The piping looks a bit makeshift too. I know we send our drainage into the ocean, but I didn't think you could just send your waste directly into it.

Maybe what you saw wasnt a sewage pipe but a Storm Drain. Somebody could of been washing their car or something. If there is no sewer main available, sewage is collected in a septic tank. Storm drains are allowed to empty on streets, backyards...etc. and eventually end up in our ocean.

I'll take a picture. I'm here right now. It was only running for about 10 minutes and then nothing else. It seemed like it would be from a shower. I'll post the pic tonight...

If you do find out that it is from that house, teach them a lesson and plug the pipe up

OK here are some pictures. In the last pic I added a red line to show where the pipe is since it's too dark under there to see.

If you really want to do something about it you will have to go to the city hall where every that city is and talk to the person that would be in charged of the city building code and they would look into it. Take the pictures also.

looks like maybe a kitchen sink line? :?: Only way to really find out if its something illegal would be to call the city like otisdis said.

I'm no pro but IMO that's not a storm drain. It looks like it's coming from the house. Call the city and have their inspectors look into it.
