Went to do some Surf fishing yesterday again.
Woke up at 4am, showered and ready by 5am, at the beach by 6:30 am and fishing with the rising sun.

Tried my honey hole first with no bites all morning. Then I moved to the extreme north of the beach and no bites.
Tied on my new LC 110 Aurora black flashminnow hoping for a halibut, but lost it 3 casts later when my 10lb vanish transitions line snapped. (I hate that line with a passion! but I have to keep using it as it cost over $15 a spool.. so I'll use it till it's gone!)

Then Skyler and Armond showed up.
We caught a few Walleye perch (my first and second Walley perch to date)
the bite dies off, so we tried the waterway at the south end of the beach. No bites there and nobody over there caught anything either.

I decided to take us back over to my honey hole behind the trash pile. Sure enough, we caught a few more Walleye Perch and a few BSP.

Just before sundown Skyler caught a shorty Hali on the camo worm. I was all jealous cause I wanted a hali and planned on throwing my LC lure all day but lost it on the 3rd cast :bang: Oh well, I'll get one VERY soon as I'll be fishing every day at the beach from Bolsa Chica to Ventura Harbor when my GF is out of town next week. Also plan to stock up on 3-4 LC 110's before I even try next time

Here's some pics and I'm sure Skyler will add more. I'll get ya hali next time. That was my target for yesterday until I lost the damn lure. Figures somone else would catch the dang thing. I've been having a buttload of bad luck lately  F-O-M.. quit praying for me to have bad days

Oh yeah. forgot to add,
we caught most of the fish at low tide, and only a few WSP at high tide.
all the fish were WAY out there. Casting far seemed to work best. :?:

Nice pics of the sunset!

Sorry to hear about getting 3 casts on a $15 lure and then making the donation to Poseidon. Keep in mind that a long time ago, before the advent of LC 110s, people used to catch flatfish on silver lures...particularly Krocodile spoons. I pretty sure halibut still eatem'.

Yeah man, I was throwing my croc spoon for a while too! Problem is, I bought my spoon one or two sizes too small for the surf :bang:  (bought it to try and jig for LMB with it)
It's all a good learning experience. Good work to Skyler on the Hali! :thumb: Maybe next time for me. I still caught a personal first on the WSP's (think thats what they are) and am stoked that I did. The hali was right there in the spot where Kichigai said it would be

In the past month, have snapped off a Kastmaster, LC110FM, 2 Storm Wild Eye Anchovies, and a BigHammer swimmy. :bang:

Posiedon has been angry with me for some reason...

Good Attitude:

It's all a good learning experience.

I had a blast out there TJ. Got pretty wet from that one wave though, lol. And boy are my arms sore from winging 1/2 oz with that 9 footer all day. Next time we should hit crystal cove, lots of good cover there, he he. Here's the pic of the 13" halibut, and the perch from yesterday. My fish tally for the day was 5 wsp's, 1 nice bsp, and a hali. The big BSP I caught was 10 1/2 inches, and 10 ounces. Made fish tacos out of them last night. You wanted to know how they taste, TJ? The WSP's taste like a slightly oilier bluegill, and the BSP's sort of taste like a mix between striper and trout. Both were very tasty in taco form. Here's the pics...

Cool hali pic. I haven't been eating any fish lately. Was just wondering how they taste coming from the surf..

I think next time I'm gonna try the beaches from when I was a kid in Ventura county. Over in Malibu there is some sweet beaches with lots of big crabs, sand crabs, mussels, starfish and sea anemones all over the rocks and cliffs. I'd imagine there could be lots of fish around there waiting to feast on the rich tidal pools.

Thanks for the tips Mike, I switched out to P-line CXX last night. I use that line for bassin' and it's very strong, so I shouldn't have any troubles with line from now on. Bought 2 more LCFM110's so if I lose one this time I'm covered

Actually O_L, that water wasn't that bad! I got out my shorts and ran around barefeet in the water all day. I knew it would be a good idea to bring them. I think Skyler actually brought his waders and didn't use them for some reason. If the water is this warm in the winter, I'll be good to go all year without waders I believe. I just don't like running around out there barefoot really as there is glass and busted shells etc, so I use my wader booties over my feet.

Wednesday I'm going to go give the LCFM another shot at some beaches I went to as a child. Might stay up there overnight and keep heading south along the beach.

Lol! I had my waders in my backpack the whole time, but I got suprised by a big wave early in the day when I wasn't planning on getting wet, so I just rolled up my jeans and put on my divers socks. Like TJ said, it really wasn't that cold at all. I was wearing jeans and a t shirt most of the day. Next time I'll put the waders on BEFORE I start fishing though, lol.

I tried to tell you before you even got wet to put the waders on.. Hence why I put on shorts and booties when you and Armond were tying up.

O_L,
Thanks for the warning. Perhaps I'll be investing in some waders after all. Preventing a jellyfish sting now means I won't have to pee on myself later

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I'm booked, but Sat, Sun, Monday and half of Tuesday I have free. Give me a hollar bro and we'll go slay some perch! I'm down for any ocean fishing at the moment. Trying to soak up all the info on beach fishing that I can.
