Took a trip up the coast to San Luis Obispo this week. Did some surf fishing just up the coast from Morro Bay at a beach called Cayucos. The shore break is very long up there and very difficult to fish. Had to wade way out (50 + yards at times) just to reach the fish. The fish were not plentiful, but definitely large!! Over a two day period, my brother and I caught about 15 perch. Most were betweeen 1-2.5 pounds. Caught one that weighed 3.2 pounds and was 16 inches long. All caught and released. We threw the lc in American Shad pattern and Aurora Black. The trick was to work them along the bottom after a quick two cracks. Once on the bottom, we just used the the current to our advantage to work the bottom. Fish were caught in less than 5 feet of water. Very cold water!!! Pictured fish was the 3.2 pounder.

Nicely done! Those Perch up the coast are something else aren't they? They love those LC's in any pattern.

Tagged along for the second day of midtownfishing's trip up to SLO county. I've been fishing with him a few years now and he's still nice enough to let me hang around. Like he said, fish weren't there in droves bu they were pretty big. Only two I caught were the biggest of my young career. The 2nd one was bigger than the one pictured, but like all good fish stories it came off before we could snap a picture  Used LC 110 American shad... Water was really cold so I bought some surfers booties; worth their weight in gold.
