Took a quick solo trip up the Mogollon Rim to go check out a buddy's cabin and property in preparation for a spring/summertime T57 out-of-state deal. Of course, on the way up and down, I would be remiss if I did not wet my line.
The rim lakes are closed (to cars, but not to hike in) this time of year, so I hiked up and down Tonto and Christopher Creek. In both scenarios, the water level is way down. Not much by the way of fish, as I was spinfishing. Beyond spooking a few elk that migrate down from the rim after the first snowing, nothing terribly exciting. Just a brisk solo hike to be had, and a few nice pools to drop the line in, or as the case was, to watch small trout swim around... The water was ridiculously cold, so I didn't bother rummaging around for my favorite trout bait....which is usually hatched anyhow by this time of year. It was a nice break from doing the usual Poway/Miramar schtick which gets old after a while.
Enjoy.
