All right! Caught my first fish out of NPH yesterday. That was also my first legal spottie. I had got off work early and went down to the habor. Things were slow at first, but picked up later. Don't know if it was because I changed location or whether the bite was better later on. It was fun nevertheless. First catch was a spottie at near 14 inches that fought pretty well...even with my medium action rod and 12#. Felt like he would wrap around mooring lines at times, but I just gave him a little slack until he moved off. The rest were a series of dink barred and spotties. All in all caught 5 bass. A good way to end out the year!NPH_12-31-07_-003.jpg[/attachment:c6988]NPH_12-31-07_-007.jpg[/attachment:c6988]

Nice catch and a good way to finish out the year at a new spot. I wish you many more in the New Year. I opted for surfing trestles and getting a few waves last evening as the beach fishing was slow.

Happy New Year to all !! I wish everyone a great 2008

Great job! Nph is a great place to fish.

You will continue to have better days as you continue to explore. I can tell you found a new spot on the island and great to see the photos. Keep exploring and you will find greater locations. Just remember that it is winter and water temps are frigid right now for them and they are lathargic and have lockjaw and you need to hit them in the nose on the cast to piss them off into attacking your bait.

I was there on Saturday and very cold nad they did not hook me up like usual. Cold and slow but great Sunset!!!

I will see you out there as that great fighting spottie and sandie are great fighters and there are larger models available on the docks.

See ya soon!!!!!

I fished the public docks in Newport Harbor. They are marked with the blue poles. You need a fishing liscence and have to move out of the way when boats come in to dock. Good luck.
