Wanted to go out and try to catch a few rockfish before the season closes tomorrow night. I got a PM from Leandro (Pillirock) telling me that he was going to be going out to the oil rigs, so I decided to join him.
Launched out of Davies around 6 am. Drove the boat to the docks and remember that I had forgotten to put the boat plug :wall: . Luckily I have two bilge pumps that helped me pump out the water really fast. I had my friend drive the trailer back to the ramp and pulled out the boat again. Put the plug back in :) then picked up some sardines from Nachos and headed towards the sisters.
Nice flat seas and great sunrise:

Got to the rigs and within 15 minutes, we had our limits of Boccaccio, this one being the largest of the three.

Soon after, we were joined by Leandro and his friends, and later on by Ken and Glen and some other gentleman.

It was slow picking of rockfish and many many Boccaccio released. Some made it back to the bottom after puncturing the bladder. Others were quickly picked up by the pelicans and seagulls.
After a while Leandro and I decided to try the 150 spot to try to get away from the Boccaccio. When we got there, I metered lots of fish which were biting on strips of squid and cut mackerel.
My pops hooked a young Black Seabass.

We fished the area for awhile and picked up a few whitefish, rockfish....this being my whopper for the day: :woot:

After awhile, Leandro decided to call it a day and headed in. We decided to go back and join Glen for some more deep water rockfish. Made several drifts and picked up a few reds and barber poles.

Around 1:30 we decided to head towards Huntington Flats and try our luck at the sandbass. While on the way, we came accross a small sunfish that was cruising near the surface. Had my friend drive the boat right next to it and I captured some video.

Had no luck on the flats, so we called it a day with our catch. Nice way to end the rockfish fishing season.
