9 Pounder caught on the backside of Catalina last Monday. Fishing with Dick Schaffer of Purefield's Tackle in Santa Monica.

Fish caught on a 5.5" Big Hammer in the "Red Rum" #100 pattern on a 1.5 oz. red Hammerhead, straight 65 pound Power Pro, 76H Shimano Calcutta Rod, Shimano Calcutta 300 TE reel. Fish was in 4 feet of water!

We saw Lal and Kman launching that morning!

Yup the lil 12-15" whipper-snappers taste excellent. I would be heartbroken if one of these homeguard mamas would end up tacos tho. We CPR 100% of the bass we catch on our boat.

That is so very true. I didn't mean to make it sound as though I'd ever eat a huge calico like those in your pics.

They are very prolific breeders compared to the smaller models.

Release those toads!!! I am in a saltwater fishing club and we target these big bass at SCI. Club record is a bit over 12. What we do is net, measure, release and calc. the weight for the record and trophy at the end of the season picnic. Saw one hooked, by a lesser talented fisherman, last season that even made the Amigo's captain, Mike Thompson, remark "is that a bass"? Ichiro remarked yea, looks to be near 18 pounds. Hooked on a sardine in 2 feet of water on the beach in the rocks. Needless to say the fish smoked this guy as we all watched in amazement  . The tail looked to be 8-10 inches wide. We like the big baits like greenies and spanish. Great catch on the plastics  !
