Henry,
That can't possibly be all the pics from your trip?? Unless some are not "child friendly" *wink wink* LOL!

Good to hear that you're at least fishing. 2007 just went by us and we never had a chance to fish together!
We need to make it a point to hook up in 2008!!

So, are all those tuna yours? How family members were fishing with you?

Hey Joe, Definitely got to get out next year. Went down there with one of my nephews and a couple of friends. The 3 of us got the 20 fishes in the pic.. We did not take too many pics as we were constantly hooked up. One of the YT went about 30lbs. For me it was a stress relief after my first semester back at school. The next day was really rough and we did not do so well. Such as fishing. Still, it was an awesome trip.

Here's some other photos btw...

By comparison this trip was a lot more relaxed than the Summer FNN trip b/c there was less fishing pressure and less of fight for resources at the hotel... Not that the company wasn't good, it was a blast! Anyhow, thursday we got in early so I decided to do some surf fishing socal style, hoping to get a roosterfish, but it looked as if they're all but gone during the winter time. We actually saw a few guys hand-lining with strip bait. It was funny b/c I thought I saw some guy using a couple of spark plugs as weights. Later on my uncle (sashimi) checked it out, and they were literally using nuts and bolts... anyhow, I did catch a YFC on gulp, but that was it for thursday nite

Friday was epic, we started out slow b/c we got lost while trying to find La Playita. The yellowfin were almost as thick as the dorado were during this last summer. At one point there were boils all over the place with 4 rod hook ups. Alas, no wahoo for the day, just 17 yellowfin's and one dorado.

Here's henry (sashimi) with his first fish of the day. He went on to land 7-8 fish

Here's my first tuna for the day

Thomas (pdrfisher?) was out of commision for the day due to a bout of lousy red wine the nite before... here's some other photos and the catch at the end of the day

Late night snack included skirt steak and snapper:

So on saturday morning, we thought we could try for some wahoo using butterfly jigs since another guy the day before hooked up on one. So, Henry, me and Thomas tried it out. Henry and I had no love on our jigs, I think they were to light, we were using 5 oz traditional jigs. Thomas was on fire, he couldn't miss, he was using a shimano knife jig that was probably around 7 ozs. With the extra weight and design, he was able to get further down than we were while we were fighting with strong current and wind. His first hookup was so violent, that the tuna actually snapped the butterfly jig in half. Needless to say, he kept on fishing it, hooking up instantly on a pargo and an amberjack.

Here's a blowup of the broken jig. It was still in one piece, but there's a clear crack across the latter third of the jig:

Due to the rough chop and nasty weather, we called it quits on jiggin and headed in for some inshore fishing for sierra and pargos... that was fun, kinda like fishing for sheepshead and bonita back at home. Good trip! Since then I've had two days of ahi sashimi, mmm so good!

Thanks for the added photos.

I've heard that 4 oz. jigs are too light and the 8 oz. jigs are too heavy.

Looks like a lot of fun. The broken butterfly jig is crazy. I wish i could have been there. Oh well there is always next summer.
