Check out these photos that capture a training maneuver gone a bit wrong. They Coast Guard guys face some hairy stuff out there. Glad to know they are out there in case we ever need help!

Pretty awesome pictures taken at the beginning of Dec. 07 in Morro Bay area.

Granny Fish, aren't you glad we didn't have those waves, when we went to the oil rigs? :)

wow...I bet those guys were going out to try to save some idiots that went out for a cruise in that weather...shame some people have to die or get seriously injured because some people think they are immortal and won't be affected by those huge swells.

Great photos Kanco!! Looks like the 47' MLB. I had the opportunity to work on a similar vessel, a 44 footer. One Hell of a boat. Stability some where at 180 degrees , self righting, self bailing. Was out in some serious stuff with that boat!! They can handle tremendous punishment. At the time I was stationed at Indian River Inlet, De. '82-83 on the 44360. Have respect for the Coasties, cuz they go out when nobody else will!!! Any Coasties on this forum? I was also on the USGC Basswood oceangoing bouy tender in Guam from '80-82.

Respect.

Have a great holidays and tight lines!

Actually large swells are kind of fun. Gives you the feeling your moving faster on the water.
Big steep swells suck. Makes you have to work the throttle to much.
Big steep breaking swells = A bad day on the water. Hope to make it back to Port in one piece.
Amazing how nasty the ocean can get.Channel Islands were expecting 19ft/22fters.Same time Morro Bay got them big swells
Wonder if that C.G.training mission was rated as a success.

Classic Winter swell footage. That happens there ALOT! Every captain up there can tell you stories about huge waves at the harbor mouth. The surfers love that place, too.
