Hey guys, decided to go on the Spitfire once again today. I thought this trip might not happen, due to the fact that it rained all night (at least here in FV) up until about 2 am this morning. I woke up at 4 am, looked outside, and saw that it was no longer raining. Received a text from B20 asking if we were still going, I replied with “I am up, we are going!!” So, I got ready, left the house around 445 am, and headed to Redondo Sport fishing, hoping that my guys would all show up this morning.
Arrived at the landing at appx 520am, met the guys who were already at the landing, bought my ticket, and headed to the South parking lot to wait to be loaded onto the boat. At 555 am, our last guy in the group showed up…B20!! Must be nice to sleep in man!! Thank you ALL for showing up, we had ZERO no-shows. The fishing crew today:

We were boarded onto the Spitfire, and left the dock at 6 am. Crew today was the dream team of Capt Craig, Morgon, Derek, and Big Bobby. Bobby did his usual fine job as Gunny Sack Coordinator and hung our sacks in order. Looked like we had about 20 on the boat. Morgon came around with the JP list, which we all signed up for, while Craig made his safety speech and plan for the day. The plan for today was too start off up in the Malibu area for bass and sheephead, then play it by ear after that. Recommended tackle was 1 ˝ oz - 3 oz leadheads, 20-25 lb test, and a fresh dead squid. We first stopped at the bait receiver to pick up some fin bait. On the way to the Malibu area, Craig made an announcement that we were going to first try one or two halibut drifts, also in that area. So, on the way up the line, we rigged up our gear, ordered breakfast (Thank you Derek, another excellent job in the galley), and had our usual morning fun of sh** talking to each other.
Arrived at the Halibut grounds, and started our first drift. No takers, and after a little while, Craig told us to wind em up, were heading up to the bass grounds!!! So we wound up our lines, and waited patiently to get to the spot.
Arrived at the spot, dropped the anchor, and started fishing. We were in about 60 feet of water. Weather started out really nice, then the wind picked up, I mean within 15-20 minutes after dropping anchor. We picked a few bass, then Craig announced “I want to get you guys into some nice weather”, Morgon pulled anchor, and we headed down the beach to the Santa Monica area, which is where we would spend most of the day.
Good call on getting us out of the Malibu area (not only was the wind blowing pretty hard, it was an ICY wind!! Very cold!!). Little, if any, wind in the SM area. Throughout the day, we would hit various spots, each one producing a few nice bass, sheephead, rockfish, and we even picked up a few triggerfish!!!!
At appx 2 pm, the bite slowed in the SM bay, so Craig decided to let us finish up our day on the sculpin grounds in an area near the landing, in appx 120 feet of water. We arrived, slayed some sculpin, and it was then time to head home.
Morgan weighed up the jackpot, which went to an 8 lb Sheephead, nice fish. Our side JP went to Cappo, with a nice 4 lb bass!! Great job Juan!!! I told you it was your turn!!!
Another excellent day on the Spitfire. Excellent, helpful crew (as usual), good fishing (as usual), and another great day with all my fishing friends. Special shout to G money and Rusty, who both showed up as promised, and were both great guys to fish with. I hope you guys had a good first trip with us on the Spitfire. You both are welcome anytime with us. And as mentioned in previous reports, the Spitfire will be targeting bass during the winter when the RF season closes, and even occasionally fishing halibut. If you haven’t fished this boat, you really need to give them a try. You will NOT be disappointed, top notch crew!!! Thank again Craig, Morgon, Derek, and Bobby for ANOTHER excellent trip on your boat, and thanks for the excellent service, we appreciate it guys. Peace
