I am heading down to San Diego monday for work, I will be right next to the bay so I thought I might as well fish rather than fight traffic back to the Empire on the 15. Do they have designated docks for public fishing like Newport? Is there a pier nearby? I dont have any surf fishing knowledge or equipment so I am going to have to sick with some sort of a structure like a pier/dock/jetty. I would guess I will be able to fish at around 3:30 of 4pm.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Try embarcadero pier. It is on Coast blvd I think. Also not too far from there is Harbor Island. Couple of miles of shore fishing there for Halibut, sand bass, spotted bay bass, mackerel, and some bonito. throw 3-5" swimbaits or grubs. Best colors are salt & pepper with silver flakes, gold/gold flakes, hot pink, rootbeer. I use 3/8 to 1/2 oz round jig head. With this swell coming through, there might be alot of salad in the bay. Check the tides also, best bite on the outgoing tide. Good luck.

When I was working in SD heavily the past couple years we kept saying we were gonna fish dixon, but never made it over to the lake. There's many small ponds and streams throughout SD county to fish, that we found by working out there.

Good luck down there. One of these days i'll get to fish Mission Bay.

I was just working by the SD airport Wednesday and tried all around the SD Bay area with no luck. So I drove 5 north about 5 minutes to Mission bay. Started catching on the 2nd cast and got 5 spotted bass in under an hour. 4" BIGHAMMER in sardine green and a 1/2 oz. red leadhead. Lots of bang for the buck, those bighammers! Got some great pics too, if I can get them out of my phone...
Good luck to you.
