Alex here...
New guy contributing. Been benefited by wonderful posts in the past so here I am contributing..
Went off the Catalina yesterday to nail bonitos with crocs. No luck like 2 weeks ago when we nailed large bonitos around 3 PM. However, we did catch about 7 opeleyes (all well over 14 inches) and few nice sheephead and a legal calico. get this, all on frozen green peas.
We did hook into something big like 4 times that broke off our lines (6 lbs). I think they were large calicos by the way they were fighting.
They seem to bite best during high tide. I did note that there were birds swarming boils out about 3 hundreds yards off shore. It lasted about 2 hours (no joke. I wish I was on a boat to chase them down).
I don't think I would be coming back to Catalina till next year since Party Boats are hitting on nice games again. Thank God for Yellows and Blues!
